River Plate defeated Unión de Santa Fe 1-0 at home and extended their lead in the Argentine Professional Football League, in one of the matches played on Friday night for the ninth round.
In a packed Monumental stadium, River dominated extensively, created several chances, and won with a great goal from Nacho Fernández (10), after a fast break on the right. After the goal, goalkeeper Sebastián Moyano became the standout player of the night by preventing a bigger defeat for 'El Tatengue'.
Despite not being as effective as in other matches, the victory of the team led by Martín Demichelis was never at risk against a limited opponent, for whom Franco Armani's goal was too far away. In addition, River's rival played almost half an hour without one of their forwards, Imanol Machuca (65), who was shown a red card after a brawl.
With this victory, River reaches 21 points and is four units ahead of Rosario Central (17), who quietly climbs to the second place, while San Lorenzo (16) will seek to get closer again when they face Independiente on Saturday in one of the highlights of the matchday.
River's next match will be their debut in the Copa Libertadores, with a trip to La Paz on Tuesday night to face The Strongest from Bolivia.
