Chilean Iván Morales converted a penalty on Saturday to give Cruz Azul, coached by Brazilian Ricardo Ferretti, a 1-0 victory over San Luis in the twelfth round of the 2023 Clausura tournament in Mexican soccer.
Cruz Azul had possession in the first half, 54-46 in their favor, but lacked effectiveness in numerous arrivals, including one by Argentine Ramiro Carreras, who hit the post, and another with a good save by Argentine goalkeeper Marcelo Barovero in a shot by Augusto Lotti.
Barovero saved San Luis on several occasions in the second half, where once again the home team showed poor aim, with arrivals into the area by Ecuadorian Michel Estrada, Uriel Antuna, and Argentine Ramiro Funes Mori.
Morales converted a penalty in the 82nd minute to give the distressing victory to the celestials, who moved up to eighth place with five wins, one draw, five losses, and 16 points. San Luis is in fifteenth place with 12 points.
