Roberto Mosquera upon arriving at Royal Pari: "I haven't watched a Sporting Cristal game since." [VIDEO]

During last Wednesday it was announced that Roberto Mosquera has been named as the new head coach of Royal Pari for the 2023 season and he was quickly contacted by the media in Bolivia. The national strategist joined the highlands team after his last stint at Sporting Cristal and hopes to relive those good moments he had between 2018 and 2019, when he also coached them.

The program Vamos Ya from the television network Tigo Sports Bolivia had an exclusive interview with the 66-year-old coach and asked him, among other things, if he usually watches his former teams. To the surprise of many, he confessed that he hasn't watched a Royal Pari match since his departure in 2019, and neither has he done it with Sporting Cristal, from where he left last season after not renewing his contract.

“Since I left Royal Pari, I haven't seen them again. It hurts my heart, I don't know why. It's not envy or jealousy. When I left Cristal, I haven't watched a match of theirs either. It hurts my soul, I fall in love with my teams and I believe they are mine. I have to understand that I have a transit, and so far I have made a good transit in all the teams I have been,” said the former Rimense coach.

According to Mosquera's statement, it is difficult for him to accept that the teams he coached are no longer his. However, he is now focused on this new challenge in Bolivia and hopes to do better than the first time, when he was competing for the national title. “The level of tranquility that Royal has is also mine. We do things the way they should be done. I think it's sensible to get together first to see if there is any wound along the way that needs to be healed and get together,” he added.

Finally, the three-time national champion in Peruvian football explained his expectations for this 2023. He acknowledged that Bolivian club officials are not patient about results and that leads them to make hasty decisions regarding the continuity of coaches. However, he is confident that it will be different at Royal Pari, where they will respect his sports project.

“I have heard, with sadness, that eight coaches have been fired and that is somewhat the image outside Bolivia that needs to be changed, because we hire hastily, commit to a process, they hire you for being the best and after two matches they fire you for being the worst. So before hiring, we have to become aware of what we want and where we are going. This takes away security from Bolivian football,” he pointed out.
