Fans of Frankfurt unleash chaos in Naples: brutal fight with police using chairs [VIDEO]

Miercoles 15 de Marzo del 2023

A few hours before the match between Napoli vs Frankfurt, for the UEFA Champions League, the ultras of the German team caused trouble in the historic center of the Italian city.

Disrupting the Champions League Party. Just hours before the start of the second leg clash of the Champions League round of 16, around 600 Eintracht Frankfurt fans who traveled to Napoli, despite not being able to access the stadium, have caused altercations and chaos in the historic center of the Italian city. They are members of the 'ultra' faction of the German team, who have clashed with the police escorting them, an operation of about 800 agents who have been unable to prevent them from attacking local businesses and even setting fire to a police car and garbage containers.

Tensions also rose with the radical faction of Napoli, who threw stones and bottles at the buses, breaking the window of one of them, that were transporting the Germans from Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, in the historic center of Naples where the events occurred, to the hotels where they are staying, as reported by local media.

The Italian authorities have calmed the confrontations and their goal now is to keep the surroundings of the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium calm, where there have been no signs of violence so far. The tension for the match began in the first leg, where altercations already occurred in the city center.

For this reason, the Government Delegate of Napoli prohibited the sale of tickets to German fans residing in Frankfurt on Sunday. A decision that did not appeal to the German club, which has already issued a press release against the measure and that has not prevented numerous fans from arriving in the southern Italian city.

Trouble with Tickets for the Champions League Match

The Eintracht returned to Napoli on Tuesday night the 2,400 tickets that would have corresponded to them for sale in the away section of the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, which will remain closed.

Despite the restrictions, it is expected that more 'ultra' fans will arrive with tickets they have obtained through third parties, some thanks to the alliance of the German team with Atalanta, and that they infiltrate the stadium as local fans.
