Donna Vekic from Croatia won the WTA Monterrey tournament on Sunday by defeating French Caroline Garcia 6-4, 3-6, and 7-5 at Club Sonoma.

Vekic, the third seed, beat Garcia, the fifth-ranked player in the world and top seed, in two hours and 29 minutes of play.

Thus, the 26-year-old Croatian racket won her fourth singles career title in Monterrey, adding it to the ones she won in Kuala Lumpur-2014, Nottingham-2017, and Courmayeur-2021.

On the other hand, the 29-year-old French player suffered her second defeat in the Monterrey final, having already lost the decisive match in 2015.

In the first match of the day, Colombians Yuliana Lizarazo and María Pérez won the doubles tournament by defeating Australian Kimberly Birrell and Mexican Fernanda Contreras 6-3, 5-7, and 10-5 in one hour and 25 minutes.

The Monterrey tournament is a WTA 250 category event and has a prize pool of $235,000; it is played on hard courts.
