Millonarios' Success in Hiring Attackers

In the last five years, Millonarios has had success in hiring attackers.

Players, who came from other clubs with little expectation and some resistance from the fans, ended up winning the crowd with goals and became top scorers.

The downside for the club and its fans is that none of them lasted more than one season.

They came, played, scored, excited the people, and left Bogotá because there was no money to buy their contracts, because the loan did not have a purchase option, or because the contract had a clause that allowed them to leave for any offer from abroad.

The most recent case was led by Fernando Uribe, the top scorer of the Apertura 2015, who went to Toluca de México.

1. Yovanny Arrechea

His signing was criticized because he came from Santa Fe, but in the 2010 season he scored 29 goals: 8 in the Apertura Tournament, 10 in the Clausura, and 11 in the Copa Colombia (he was the top scorer of that edition). In January 2011, he went to Nacional.

2. Édinson Toloza

He also arrived in Bogotá resisted by the fans because of his past in América and Santa Fe. In the Apertura, he scored 11 goals (Silver Boot), in the Clausura he scored 9, and in the Copa Colombia he scored 5, for a total of 25. In December of that year, his transfer to Morelia in Mexico was confirmed.

3. Humberto Osorio Botello

In January 2012, he arrived without many credentials after playing for América, Bucaramanga, and Cúcuta, but ended up as the second top scorer of the Apertura Tournament with 11 goals. In the first match of the Clausura, he scored a goal against Santa Fe and at the end of the match, his departure was announced.

4. Wilberto Cosme

Like Osorio Botello, he arrived in January 2012. However, he became prominent in the second semester where he contributed 8 goals (including one in the final against Medellín), for the achievement of the 14th championship. In January, he was loaned to Querétaro in Mexico. He scored 15 goals in the season, including 2 in the Apertura, 1 in the Copa Colombia, and 4 in the Sudamericana.

5. Fredy Montero

The forward who came from the Seattle Sounders of the MLS for the Copa Libertadores only stayed in the first semester of 2013, where he scored 8 goals in the Apertura (he won the Bronze Boot) and 2 in the Copa Colombia. In July, he went to Sporting Lisbon.

6. Wason Rentería

He is the only one in this list who lasted one and a half seasons. He arrived for the second semester of 2012, in which he scored 5 goals in the FPC and 5 in the Sudamericana. In the 2013 season, he scored 21 goals for a total of 31 in his time in Bogotá. In December 2013, he said goodbye to the blue fans and went to Racing in Argentina.

7. Dayro Moreno

He stayed for a year and scored 35 times. In the Finalización 2013, he scored 16 goals and finished as the league's top scorer, tied with Luis Carlos Ruiz of Junior; in the Apertura 2014, he scored 13 and won the Golden Boot alone. The total number includes the 6 goals he scored in the Copa Colombia. In June 2014, the loan expired and he returned to Tijuana in Mexico.

8. Fernando Uribe

He was initially resisted because of his past in Nacional, but with goals, he changed whistles for applause. In total, he scored 29 goals; 10 in the Clausura 2014, 15 in the Apertura 2015 (he won the Golden Boot), 2 in the Copa Colombia 2014, and 2 in the Sudamericana of the same year. His new club is Mexican Toluca.
