Barcelona, eliminated in the group stage of the Champions League, will play against Manchester United in the Europa League round of 16. Another European elimination, as happened last year when they fell in both competitions, would be a huge blow for Xavi and Barcelona, unable to beat Bayern Munich and Inter in four group stage matches.
Ten players from the Barcelona first team, including injured Sergio Busquets and Ousmane Dembélé, trained on Tuesday at the Joan Gamper sports city, despite coach Xavi Hernández giving the squad a rest day.
In addition to the two injured players, who attended to continue their recovery process, Jordi Alba, Eric García, Alejandro Balde, Sergi Roberto, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Gavi, and Pablo Torre trained.
Only two of these eight, Alejandro Balde and midfielder Gavi, are likely to start in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16 against Manchester United on Thursday.
The Barcelona team will return to training on Wednesday. The session is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Spain, with the first 15 minutes open to the media. Subsequently, coach Xavi Hernández and forward Raphinha will hold press conferences.
