Sanjuanina Fernanda Pereyra wins bronze in Beach Volleyball

The San Juan player Fernanda Pereyra, in partnership with Cecilia Peralta from Mar del Plata, won the bronze medal at the second stage of the South American Beach Volleyball Circuit by defeating the Chilean team 2-1 in the third-place match held at CEF 20-La Granja. This way, Pereyra stepped on the podium again as a local player, although she couldn't defend the title she won in 2022 in the same scenario.

On the other hand, last night, the finals in the women's and men's categories were played in Santa Lucía.

The South American Circuit in San Juan awarded points for the qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Pereyra-Peralta's performance in this stage of the South American Circuit was outstanding, but they faced difficulties on Saturday night when they played against the Chilean team in the final phase. Argentina was winning 1-0 and leading 8-1 in the second set when the rival staged a comeback and turned the game around, winning 2-1. This defeat not only prevented the local players from directly qualifying for the semifinals but also forced them to play in the quarterfinals yesterday, in the first match of the day. After defeating Colombia 2-0, Argentina had to face Brazil, in the middle of an extremely hot day, but they couldn't reach the finals, losing 0-2.

That's how the host volleyball players played for the bronze again last night, this time against Chile, who lost to Paraguay in the semifinals. In a close match, filled with tension and a lengthy finish against Francisca Rivas and Chris Vorpahl, the Argentinians emerged victorious, winning 2-1.

The first set was dominated by the San Juan and Mar del Plata players, winning 21-16. The second set showed Chile's recovery, just like what happened on Saturday, and there was an exhausting finish that was resolved with an impressive 34-32 score, forcing a tiebreak. In another high-level set, the teams delivered a great spectacle that Argentina won by 15-13 after 1 hour and 20 minutes. "We know Chile very well, and this time it ended up in our favor. We wanted to reach the podium, and fortunately, we achieved it," highlighted Fernanda Pereyra after the exciting match.
