The president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, did not give importance to the statements made by Matías Messi, Lionel Messi's brother, in which he criticized him and the club for not fulfilling their promise to renew the Argentine star.

"I don't give it any importance, because he has already apologized. Everything he said is understandable; let's leave it there and not give it more importance," said Laporta in a press conference, adding that these statements from Matías Messi "do not affect at all the relationship between Leo and FC Barcelona."

However, the president of Barza preferred not to delve into when asked if his dream of seeing the Rosario 'crack' retire in the blue and maroon team was still alive.

"It is obvious that Leo Messi is a part of Barça's heritage and, in this sense, we are very proud to have had the best player in the world and probably in history with us. But Messi belongs to PSG, he is a PSG player, and out of respect, I do not want to comment on players who are in other clubs," said Laporta, who admitted that his feeling in this case is one of "maximum understanding" and that he would not dwell on it any longer.

Lionel Messi in Barcelona

Lionel Messi is considered the most important footballer in the history of Barcelona. He arrived when he was 13 years old and the rest is history. He won 35 titles until he signed with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in June 2021.
