Diego Cocca would be chosen to take the reins of the Mexican national team with a view to the 2026 World Cup.

After several days of negotiations, Diego Cocca would be chosen as the new strategist for the Mexican national team, with an eye towards the 2026 World Cup. The Argentine coach has the approval of the majority of the members of the National Team Selection Committee, so only the approval of Tigres UANL, the current team of the mentioned coach, is missing.

According to the information released, on Wednesday February 8, Cocca - against all odds - would have won the battle against Guillermo Almada and Miguel Herrera, who were also favored to take the position.

The presence of Alejandro Irarragorri at the committee meeting was relevant to the final selection of the 'Tricolor' coach, as he was the one who supported Diego's candidacy, the recent two-time champion of Mexican soccer.

However, agreements still need to be finalized between the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) and the Tigres leadership, as the mentioned coach still has a valid contract with the 'Felinos' team, which he joined at the end of last year.

The 'auriazul' directive has already been notified of the decision made, so their prompt response is expected. It is worth noting that the contract that binds the coach to the 'universitarios' does not include a termination clause.

The Argentine Cocca started coaching Gimnasia y Esgrima de la Plata in 2009. He has coached Santos Laguna, Huracán, Millonarios, Rosario Central, and Tijuana. He won a championship with Racing Club (2021) and achieved a two-time championship with Atlas (2021-2022).
