As every year and since 1962, it is a tradition of the Executive Government to give an official name to Peru, in order to promote and recognize the social agenda in the country. This decision is announced by the current president, so this year 2023 was the current president of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, who was in charge of announcing the official name of the country. In the following note we will tell you what was chosen and why it is named that way. Also, you will know how this election is carried out. Check out all the details in this note from Depor.

Why is the name of the year chosen and how is the election made?

This custom was adopted with the aim of promoting and recognizing the issues that mark the social agenda of the Government. The objective is for state and private entities to take into account what the Executive establishes for this year. The official name, finally, is chosen by consensus after several proposals made throughout the year by ministries and public entities.

What will be the official name of the year 2023 in Peru?

"Year of unity, peace and development" is the name given to the year 2023, according to Supreme Decree 004-2023-PCM, published this Friday, January 13th, in the Legal Standards bulletin of the Official Gazette El Peruano.

In recent years, the official names were decreed on the first days of January, as Francisco Sagasti (January 7) or Pedro Castillo (January 8) did. For this reason, it was expected that Dina Boluarte would do the same in those days of 2023.
