After having played for Everton in England for the last season and a half, the 33-year-old forward was officially announced as a new player for the team led by Martín Demichelis.

After not winning anything last season, River Plate started a major squad renovation in order to give all the facilities to Martín Demichelis, who arrived to take over as head coach after Marcelo Gallardo's departure. One of the requests from the Cordoban was Salomón Rondón, and finally, after a complex negotiation, he was able to be presented as the team's fourth reinforcement for this 2023.

The Venezuelan striker was without a team after ending his contract with Everton in the Premier League, so his signing depended on other factors. Finally, the 'Millonario' resolved all the obstacles and, after signing the contract last Sunday, was able to announce through their social media the addition of the llanero.

Martín Demichelis requested Rondón's signing since he met him during his time at Malaga in 2009. Since then, they forged a great friendship, which facilitated the conversations to convince the Venezuelan to join this new sports project with the aim of winning the Argentine Professional League and the Copa Libertadores again.

Although the Caracas-born player has not played an official match since October 2022, when he played against Tottenham in matchday 11 of the Premier League, he is not out of shape as he has been training separately with the physical trainer of Malaga. Thus, he only needs to do a conditioning in his training to be available for Demichelis.

Salomón Rondón's present

When Salomón Rondón signed for Everton in August 2021, he expected to have many minutes and show why he was still considered among the elite of the Premier League. However, the Liverpool club went through very tough times, with constant changes of coaches and fighting relegation, a situation they are currently in this season.

Thus, he only managed to play 31 matches over a season and a half, in which he scored three goals in 1226 minutes played. Despite not being at his best moment, his arrival at River is good news for Martín Demichelis. Now he will have one more striker in his squad and Miguel Borja will have a luxury competition. Even if the opponent or the match requires it, both forwards could play together.
