The national center-back left New York City of the MLS to become a new reinforcement for Girona, with the aim of demonstrating that he is ready to compete against the strongest rivals of LaLiga Santander.
However, his arrival generated drastic decisions regarding Girona's internal situation. According to the renowned international portal "Transfermarkt," the signing of Alexander Callens forced the Catalan club to part ways with one of its high-value players.
And this action had to be taken as soon as possible in order to register the player for this LaLiga season, so there were two options on the table for Girona.
"The arrival of the player to Montilivi, as happened with Tsygankov, will force the Catalan club to free up a spot to register him in LaLiga. According to different sources, Manu Vallejo or Samu Saiz could be the ones leaving the team to make room for the new addition," revealed Transfermarkt.
After considering these two options, Girona decided to remove Samu Saiz after a long spell at the club. His contract was terminated in this European winter transfer window, so he has now decided to face a new challenge at 32 years of age.
