After a rocky debut in San Luis, the Big River rearranged the pieces and had a good start to the year internationally. The team led by Martín Demichelis achieved two good victories in the last phase of the preseason, first against Monterrey Rayados in Austin and then against Millonarios from Colombia in Miami. This Tuesday, River will seek to close its tour of North America with a new victory and good feelings before returning to Buenos Aires to face the final stage of the preparation.
The third and final opponent of River in the United States will be Vasco da Gama, a team always to be feared. Although there are no recent precedents - the last match between the two dates back to 01/21/2017, when they faced each other for the Florida Cup - the coaching staff of the Big River will take the match very seriously. This match against the Brazilian team will be one of the last tests for Martín Demichelis to see his players in action before starting the official competition in the Professional League, scheduled for January 28th in Santiago del Estero. Several conclusions can be drawn from this presentation.
Regarding the team, Micho did not give any confirmations, unlike what happened in the last match against Millonarios. However, based on the logic he has been handling throughout the preseason, it is very likely that he will repeat the eleven changes he has been making from one game to another. At least, he already advanced in the last press conference that he will be able to use several players who rested against the Bogotá team, such as Jonatan Maidana, Enzo Pérez, Nacho Fernández, and Milton Casco.
On the other hand, there is an extensive list of players who have been training differently and will miss the farewell match in the United States. They are the cases of Paulo Díaz, David Martínez, Elías López, Agustín Palavecino, Nicolás De La Cruz, and Matías Suárez. Each of them is going through different stages of rehabilitation for their respective injuries. Upon their return to Buenos Aires, they will begin to be tested to determine who will be available for the debut against Central Córdoba in the first round of the Professional League.
On Vasco da Gama's side, coach Emilio Faro also did not provide any certainty about the team that will take the field against River. His team drew 0-0 last Friday against Madureira at São Januário stadium for the 1st round of the 2023 Carioca Championship. After facing Millionaire, they will have another friendly match ahead: on January 21st against Inter Miami.
