The Mexican football player Julio César 'Cata' Domínguez, player of Cruz Azul in the top division of his country, sparked a great controversy after posting photos of a party he organized for his younger son with a drug trafficking theme. The incident has generated a wave of criticism towards the football player. In this regard, the Liga MX and the mentioned club have spoken out, although belatedly and without specifying the sanction against the athlete, who, in recent hours, has offered a public apology and a promise to his nation.
On Tuesday, January 10, following media pressure for several days, the Liga MX and Cruz Azul stated their position regarding the case of 'Cata' Domínguez. The organizations rejected what happened and indicated that the player would apologize, without specifying any penalty.
"Both institutions reject any manifestation that promotes violence. The Cruz Azul soccer club, from the first day, took preventive and corrective measures to resolve this situation and prevent it from happening again," the statement begins.
"In addition, the Club will provide support, training, and awareness to the player regarding this delicate issue. It has been agreed that the player Julio César Domínguez will give a message to the public opinion today to state his position and version of the events," it adds.
The public apologies of 'Cata' Domínguez
After the joint statement from the directors of La Maquina and Liga MX, a new public apology came from 'Cata' Domínguez, who used the official channels of his club to address Mexicans and make a promise.
"In recent days, images of a family party with a theme that caused, rightly so, outrage in society were released, which initially was about a very popular video game among young people and I brought a Laser Tag show," the player began.
"It was a mistake and I would like to offer a sincere apology to the public opinion, the fans, my teammates, Liga MX, and the Federation for these unfortunate events. I would like to make it clear that it was a private event completely unrelated to my profession," he continued.
"I recognize that those images are not what Mexico needs. I have committed and commit to becoming a role model who promotes the values of Liga MX and my club, and to maintain exemplary behavior," the 'Cata' promised.
