EAGLE RIVER – The Tomahawk Hatchet hockey team emerged with two wins and one loss in a recent three-game stretch.
Northland Pines
The Hatchets traveled to the Eagle River to take on Northland Pines on Friday, Dec. 30, and came away with a 7-1 victory.
“What a game,” coach Chris Bembinster said after the resounding win. “We found ourselves in bad penalty trouble in the first period. We came out of it 0-0. After that, we settled down and started to play our game.”
Bembinster noted that Tomahawk had a lot of scoring opportunities, “and luckily, capitalized on seven for a good win.”
“We came down here, played well and learned even more about how to get better,” he stated, adding that he was “very proud of this group for seeing things through.”
Lakeland
On Thursday, Jan. 5, the Lakeland Thunderbirds came to the SARA Park Arena, and Tomahawk ultimately earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory.
“The players showed what they can do as a team tonight,” Bembinster said after the game. “This group is coming together better and better every game. This was a big win for this team. The coaching staff is very proud of them.”
Marshfield
Tomahawk hosted Marshfield on Friday, Jan. 6 and ultimately fell by a score of 5-3.
Bembinster said the Hatchets “came out very flat” after their win over Lakeland the night before, falling behind 3-1 in the first period, but the team rallied in the second and third periods.
“In the end, (it was) not enough to recover from the first,” Bembinster stated. “We will come out of this one stronger than we went in. We all learned that how we prepare and our mental state, before, during and right after our games is highly important. We will use this to build going into next week.”
This week’s action
Pacelli was scheduled to visit Tomahawk on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
The Hatchet skaters will make the trek to Antigo on Thursday, Jan. 12. Opening puck drop is at 7 p.m.
