Amidst the dispute over broadcasting rights, 8 Peruvian football teams have shown opposition against the federation and may not participate in the 2023 season.

Days before the start of the Liga 1-2023, eight clubs have spoken out against the Peruvian Football Federation and the precautionary measure that was taken. Alianza Lima, Universitario, Sport Boys, Deportivo Municipal, FBC Melgar, Cienciano, Cusco FC, and Deportivo Binacional issued a joint statement in which they informed that they would not participate in the next season of the local tournament if the FPF does not withdraw its action.

As it is remembered, the FPF obtained the precautionary measure, so the contracts between clubs and the Peruvian Football Consortium (GolPerú) made after the agreement between the entity and 1190 Sports became void.

"This (aggressive and disproportionate) precautionary measure harms all national football fans, since our matches will not be televised or broadcasted by any means: cable operator or open signal," state the teams in their statement. In addition, they argue that this "will generate contingencies" with their sponsors and will affect their income.

In that sense, the eight institutions mentioned that the FPF "must rectify immediately" and urged it to "withdraw the precautionary action presented to the commercial court". "Otherwise, the signing clubs will not participate in the Liga 1-2023 championship," they indicated.

Finally, they demanded transparency in the payments made to some teams, mentioning that they, the clubs in the statement, "would be discriminated against in the single payment of $500,000".

When does Liga 1-2023 start?

In a statement from the Professional Football League, it was announced that the start of the new Liga 1 season would be on Saturday, January 21, 2023, one week after the initially scheduled date.

Prosecutor's Office requests DirecTV copy of contract with 1190 Sports

The Public Ministry indicated that on January 3, 2023, they received the complaint from the Sports Association, which stated that "the criminal organization, through the FPF, has designated the company DirecTV to broadcast professional Peruvian football matches" and, with that, "would be seeking to appropriate the television rights of Liga 1".

In that sense, the organization urged to present the respective documents, since - according to the complainant - the FPF "would be performing acts of coercion and extortion in order to have control over TV rights".
