This Monday Universitario de Deportes announced Annie del Carpio as their new player for the 2023 Women's League. The officialization of the national goalkeeper, a former player of Alianza Lima, was made through the club's social media.
"Annie wears the colors of the most champion. The biggest welcomes you. Annie del Carpio 2023. Let's go for it, 'Leona'!", reads the publication made by Universitario de Deportes along with an image of the 32-year-old goalkeeper.
As you may remember, Del Carpio was one of the main figures in Alianza Lima's championship in 2021, managing to keep a clean sheet in most of the matches and being a starter in the grand final of the Women's League that year, in which, coincidentally, the 'blanquiazules' prevailed 1-0 against Universitario de Deportes and were crowned champions.
Similarly, Del Carpio was also part of the Alianza Lima squad that won the championship in 2022; however, she did not have the same continuity as in 2021 since the starting goalkeeper was Maryory Sánchez. Last December, Del Carpio announced her departure from the club.
