Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave an update on Clemson starting cornerback Sheridan Jones ahead of the 2022 Orange Bowl.
Jones made the trip to Florida with the team and has had limited participation in practice since arriving. Though Jones has declared this season his senior season, Swinney mentioned his uncertainty about his future plans.
“He’s been dealing with a hip flexor, so he’s going to be close,” Swinney said. “He could come back. He declared this as his senior season all year, but as you know, with a lot of these guys, we will deal with it a couple more years with the COVID year. A lot of these guys are going to decide that after the game.”
Jones has already graduated though it doesn’t mean his time with Clemson has to end. Another year of eligibility allows the young cornerback the opportunity to return if he sees it as the best option for his future.
When it comes to his availability for the Orange Bowl, that, too, is uncertain for Swinney.
“It’s going to be close,” Swinney said.
We will have to wait to see if Jones will be available on game day.
