Isco Alarcón is on everyone's lips. Not only because of his abrupt departure from Sevilla a few days ago, but also because he was the victim of a joke by a Fourth Division club in Spain in the midst of jokes for April Fools' Day. It is none other than UD Melilla, a club that has had the brilliant idea of announcing the arrival of the Malaga-born player as a free agent just a few days before the winter transfer market opens. Although they tried to be as serious as possible, everyone ended up realizing that it was a prank.
As if it were a real signing, Melilla prepared a photograph in which Isco wore their colors. Immediately, they announced that he was signing for five seasons, arousing great excitement among their fans. However, the lie soon fell apart.
"𝗕𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗱𝗼 𝗜𝘀𝗰𝗼! Luxury signing for @UDMelilla. Signs as azulino until 2028. Tomorrow he will be presented at Bar Saito's facilities," was the message that the Spanish club posted on their Twitter account. As expected, the post quickly went viral on this and other social networks.
Why did Isco leave Sevilla?
At 30 years old, and after two seasons with very little prominence in the team where he made a name for himself, Real Madrid, Francisco Román Alarcón Suárez, 'Isco' for his closest people and also for football, arrived last summer at the club in the Nervión neighborhood as a clearly established player with tremendous technical quality, but in need of relaunching his career.
With Julen Lopetegui, then Sevilla coach and one of those who understood him best, as his main supporter, the dream of the fine midfielder from Arroyo de la Miel (Benalmádena) to rediscover himself and shine again at the highest level has faded too soon.
Isco's adventure as a Sevilla player, as well as his ambition to become someone important again in Spanish and European football, lasted exactly 135 days, less than twenty weeks, from the announcement of his exciting signing on August 8th as a free agent with a two-year contract, the last one conditioned to his performance, to his termination.
