Women's soccer continues to grow in Peru. Clubs are increasingly making investments. This time, Universitario de Deportes announced that it has given professional contracts for the first time to seven of its players.
Xioczana Canales, Fabiola Herrera, Stephannie Vásquez, Esthefany Espino, Cindy Novoa, Nahomi Martínez, and Scarleth Flores are the players who will make history in women's soccer at 'U'.
"Having a professional contract is a huge joy because it shows that the club is supporting women's soccer and betting on us. This entails responsibility, dedication, and effort in a discipline that is growing and improving in many aspects. I hope that other clubs can follow this path so that soccer in our country continues to grow and more girls get inspired," said forward Xioczana Canales, as published by the club on its website.
In the same way, midfielder Cindy Novoa commented on the matter. "Being part of this first group of players with professional contracts at Universitario is a huge step. It excites me and at the same time, it is a great commitment for us. I am very happy and I hope that more clubs replicate what 'U' is doing," she mentioned.
Months ago, Universitario de Deportes inaugurated the High Performance Center, intended for youth divisions and the women's team, which has an exclusive dressing room, as well as a physical rehabilitation center and a shared gym.
