Government in crisis.
Following the constant protests in various provinces of Peru, Alberto Otárola, Minister of Defense of Peru, announced the State of Emergency in the provinces of Abancay, Andahuaylas, Chincheros, Grau, Cotabambas, Antabamba, and Aymaraes of the Apurímac department.
However, after a few hours of debate, the State of Emergency will be implemented throughout Peru, for a period of 30 days from December 14, 2022.
The State of Emergency is also carried out with the aim of recovering the National Road Network, which has been taken over in several sections by the protesters.
The president has estimated that the Armed Forces will protect Peru's strategic infrastructure, that is, airports, hydroelectric power plants, among others. Does this mean there will be a curfew for the people?
It should be noted that a national curfew has NOT been established; however, this measure is under debate. Note that this has not yet been decreed, so Peruvians can continue with their activities freely.
What does the curfew mean?
If the national curfew is implemented, all individuals would be prohibited from being out and about between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am. In case of emergencies, a person can identify themselves to be able to go to health centers and other exceptional cases.
