The FIFA has opened a disciplinary proceeding after the Argentina vs. Netherlands match and, while waiting for the decision to be announced, the first 'baja' suffered by the 'albiceleste' team has been revealed. Streamer Gerónimo Benavides announced this Sunday that he will no longer be the voice of the Argentinians in the stadiums during the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The renowned streamer, 'Momo', was responsible for rallying the fans and providing information about the lineups in each pre-match of the team led by Lionel Scaloni. Benavides announced that he will no longer perform that role by FIFA's decision.
"Unfortunately, today FIFA informed me that I will no longer be the voice of the stadium when the National Team plays, without much explanation, they led me to understand that part of it is due to what happened against the Netherlands," he posted on his official Twitter account, where he has more than 500,000 followers.
"This thread is only to thank those who supported me, apologize to those who feel that I failed them, or perhaps didn't feel that I did well with what I had to do from my humble position. Honestly, I tried to be the voice of each one of you, as Argentine as possible, without acting, feeling it, and expressing myself as you would, being one more as always," he added.
Momo was distressed by what happened, but also grateful: "Thank you for accompanying me in this dream I lived, thanks to the AFA and the players and staff of the National Team who always included me (and it doesn't depend on them) and above all to the players for the moments of happiness they make us live and that are the most important thing."
"This beautiful and messed up job is over, I hope I haven't let you down and you will see me blogging from anywhere, cheering as always, singing as always, because what matters is that Argentina reaches the top, not my role, I was a tiny link in something beautiful," he emphasized.
The Argentine national team will play all the matches of the 2022 World Cup after reaching the semifinals in an exciting penalty shootout. Now, led by Lionel Messi, they will face Croatia in their quest to reach the final.
