The Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana has been excluded from the national team after, as EFE learned, his coach Rigobert Song asked him to change his playing style on Saturday, something the current Inter Milan goalkeeper refused. As a result, he has left the African team's concentration.
It was surprising to see Onana not in the starting eleven for Cameroon, with Devis Epassy getting the nod, nor on the bench after starting the Qatar World Cup as the first-choice goalkeeper.
However, as EFE learned, an exchange of opinions took place between the goalkeeper and his coach on Saturday after the defeat against Switzerland (1-0). The coach asked him to change his playing style and take fewer risks in his outings and with the ball at his feet.
This was not accepted by Onana and, feeling like a substitute, both parties decided that he should leave the concentration. A discussion in which the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto'o, who gives his name to the academy where Onana came from, chose to support his coach.
A situation that has left Onana in a "state of shock", as he says goodbye to his dream of playing in a World Cup after just one match.
