Peruvian pride! Pilar Jaúregui is crowned world champion in para-badminton.

The Peruvian paraathlete defeated Turkish Emine Seckin in the final and was crowned in the world competition held in Japan.

¡Amazing triumph! The parathlete Pilar Jáuregui writes her name in the history of Peruvian sports by becoming the champion in the 2022 Parabadminton World Championships after defeating Emine Seckin in the final by 2-1 with scores of 21-18, 20-22, and 21-17.

In the WH2 category, the compatriot won the gold in the competition held at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan. The same venue where she fell after two matches in the 2020 Paralympics now sees her as a champion.

Like Jáuregui, other national parathletes managed to win medals in the Parabadminton tournament; although, in those cases, the Peruvian athletes obtained the silver medal:

  • Giuliana Poveda (singles SH6) - silver
  • Giuliana Poveda and Nilton Quispe (mixed SH6) - silver
  • Pilar Jáuregui and Yuri Ferrigno (mixed WH1-WH2) - silver.

Pilar Jáuregui: awards

Jáuregui was part of the wheelchair basketball team in the 2015 Parapan American Games, but the following year she dedicated herself entirely to racquet sports, in which she has achieved important recognitions.
