Argentinian Eduardo "Chacho" Coudet, who was sacked as Celta coach on Wednesday, expressed in his farewell that he did not expect this decision from the club's leaders at this stage of the season, although he admits it was "the chronicle of a foretold death" due to his distance with sports advisor Luis Campos.
"I didn't expect it, it surprised me. We knew the difficult situation we were in, but I expected it to wait until the break. We are the team that has been most dismantled, losing six starters, and we have the same number of points as last year. It's not an excuse. I didn't expect it, I respect it, and I am grateful to everyone," he declared in a press conference.
"Goodbyes are difficult. My feeling was to continue. I am sad and grateful. I believe that we have brought back a philosophy to the club. After eight years, it is the first time they have let me go," added the Argentine.
Very emotional, Coudet did not hide that his "project" at Celta changed "one hundred percent" since he renewed "for three seasons" in June 2021 until Portuguese Campos was hired as a sports advisor after Felipe Miñambres left.
Coudet was accompanied by his assistant Ariel Broggi in a press conference that was not attended by the club president and majority shareholder, Carlos Mouriño, with whom he had been distant since the end of last season, especially due to his strong defense of Denis Suárez, whom the directors prevent from playing.
'Chacho' considered that LaLiga "puts you in your place. I believe it is the chronicle of a foretold death, but I am grateful to the club. I also want to thank the fans. I wish the club the best."
Carlos Carvalhal, new Celta coach
Celta announced on Wednesday the arrival of Portuguese Carlos Carvalhal as the new coach, following the earlier dismissal of Argentine Eduardo 'Chacho' Coudet due to the team's poor results in the first half of the season.
"Carlos Carvalhal will be the RC Celta coach until June 2024 after reaching an agreement with the club in the last few hours," said Celta in a statement.
Earlier, the Galician club had announced that "Chacho Coudet and his coaching staff are leaving RC Celta."
