In the final stretch of the Real Madrid vs. Girona match, a historic incident occurred: Toni Kroos was sent off for the first time in his professional career. Although, given the context of the match (Carlo Ancelotti's team was tied 1-1 shortly before the end of the match), it put the locals in serious trouble at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

As soon as referee Mario Melero López took the red card out of one of his pockets, there were diverse reactions. The German has been in football for 15 years and had never been sent off, not even when playing for clubs and the national team. In fact, he waited 740 official matches to experience the bitter feeling of leaving the field early due to this situation.

The action started with a Real Madrid loss of possession in attack. With the score level, Girona quickly escaped with Aleix García. However, the advance of the visitors' number 14 was stopped with a clear foul by Kroos. Thus, the referee did not hesitate to show the German his second yellow card, resulting in a red card.

The first caution for the 2014 World Cup champion was for a similar incident. The Michel-led team tried to break away with Yan Cuoto's control, but the German intervened with a tough tackle that was punished with a yellow card. With that warning, he continued on the field around the 55th minute.

However, the referee did not forgive Kroos for the second harsh foul he committed during the game. Toni was surprised by the sanction and left without saying a word. In fact, the only reaction was a smile of disbelief as he left the field at Real Madrid's stadium.

Kroos will miss the LaLiga Santander match against Rayo Vallecano on November 7, if he receives a suspension. However, the midfielder is available to close out the Champions League group stage on November 2 against Celtic in the Spanish capital.
