Real Madrid lost its unbeaten streak in its visit to Leipzig, where it was defeated 3-2 in the fifth round of the Champions League. The team faced the match with the qualification to the round of 16 already secured but was consistently behind for the initial twenty minutes due to a lack of intensity which cost them two goals.
After fourteen victories and two draws in the season, Carlo Ancelotti's team suffered its first defeat in Leipzig. The goals by Joško Gvardiol at the 13th minute and Christopher Nkunku at the 18th minute rewarded the superiority of the German team against a Real Madrid with rotations and without the intensity demanded by the Champions League.
Brazilian Vinícius Junior got his team back into the game with a header one minute before half-time, and he had the chance to equalize again, this time with an assist from Marco Asensio, eleven minutes before the end, but he missed the target with everything in his favor.
The sentence came on the counterattack with Timo Werner's goal and the added-time penalty goal by Rodrygo for the final 3-2 score, which leaves their team trailing by one point to the top spot before the last round in which Real Madrid welcomes Celtic at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
