Real Madrid lost its unbeaten streak in its visit to Leipzig, where it was defeated 3-2 in the fifth round of the Champions League. The team faced the match with the qualification to the round of 16 already secured but was consistently behind for the initial twenty minutes due to a lack of intensity which cost them two goals.

After fourteen victories and two draws in the season, Carlo Ancelotti's team suffered its first defeat in Leipzig.
