And it's because the medal is not pure gold, it only has a little gold plating, so from time to time, you have to take it to the jeweler to make it look like new again. And the thieves robbed us just a day before it was due for maintenance. At that time, it was a thief-repellent gold," said Delgado.

From that moment on, Ricardo says that he valued his medal even more because it represented all the effort and sacrifice he had made to get it.

"This medal is a piece of Mexico, perhaps microscopic, but it's from Mexico. For me, it's a symbolic piece, the constancy of a triumph. That's why the time I thought it had been stolen, I started to reflect on its true meaning, and then I realized that the real medal, whether it's gold, silver, or bronze, is stuck to our skin, we have it in our heart, and it will go with us to the grave," he mentioned.
