During the match between Universitario and FBC Melgar, in the Liga 1 2022, Kevin Quevedo suffered racist attacks from the fans in the stands. A banana was thrown at the Dominó player, which the referee of the match ended up removing.
After this reprehensible incident, both institutions expressed their total rejection of the gesture, and in the case of Universitario, they committed to finding the culprit.

The Luis Tejada Case
In 2015, 'Pana' was defending the colors of Juan Aurich de Chiclayo in a match against Cienciano, in Cusco. At one point in the match, the imperial fans attacked the Panamanian player with racist gestures.
This resulted in a fine of 10 UIT (38,500 soles) for the Cusco team. Furthermore, the Professional Football Sports Association (ADFP) decided that the next match for 'Papá' would be played without an audience.

Universitario speaks out against racist attacks on Quevedo
Through their social media, the Universitario institution expressed their position regarding the gestures towards the Melgar player. "Club Universitario de Deportes rejects any act of discrimination; that is why we have initiated the corresponding investigation to identify, through our security cameras, the person responsible for this act that we do not endorse," they began.
"We commit to taking immediate actions as soon as the investigations are concluded, which will be brought to the attention of the authorities," they added.
