The farewell party for Marcelo Gallardo at Monumental had many emotional moments
One of those moments happened as soon as he entered the field, where he had to console a ball boy who was crying inconsolably before the River Plate vs Rosario Central match.
Remember that last Thursday, the 'Muñeco' announced that once the current Argentine championship is over, he will leave River and the shock was total. Since then, millions of fans have gone through many emotions with a common denominator: gratitude.
That's why this Sunday, in River's last home game in the Argentine League, it was impossible for the fans not to thank him for everything he did for the club: he respected the River philosophy, boosted players, and became the winningest coach in the team's history.
Gallardo: titles at the helm of River Plate
Marcelo Gallardo conquered the First Division (2021), three editions of the Argentine Cup (2016, 2017, and 2021), two Supercopa Argentina (2017 and 2019), and a Trophy of Champions (2021). He also lifted the Copa Libertadores trophy twice (2015 and 2018), with the most memorable being the one almost four years ago when he defeated Boca Juniors in the final played at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. He also won the Copa Sudamericana (2014) and, on three occasions, the Recopa Sudamericana (2015, 2016, and 2019). Additionally, he lifted the Copa Suruga Bank trophy (2015).
