Central takes the hit: Alejo Véliz's brace for a 2-0 victory against River at the Monumental.

In Marcelo Gallardo's last match in the Monumental: the coach announced that he will not renew with River Plate, Rosario Central is giving a surprise visit and is already 2-0 ahead in the scoreboard thanks to Alejo Véliz's brace, who has become a nightmare for the 'Millionaire' defense in the 26th matchday of the Argentine Professional League.

The two goals were heavily influenced by River's defensive errors. In the first one, due to Armani's mistake: after a weak and containable shot, the goalkeeper left a short rebound that Véliz took advantage of to open the scoring at the Monumental.

And in the second one, which came at the beginning of the second half, Blanco made a good dribble down the left flank against the passive 'Millionaire' defense and crossed a low center that Véliz converted again at the far post.

Central is doing its part: they defend well and quickly counterattack to try to generate danger on the wings and with the speed of their forwards. Meanwhile, River has some moments of good play, but they are struggling in the match, especially in defense.

River Plate vs. Rosario Central: match preview

River Plate comes from four consecutive victories, the most recent one being a 2-1 victory against Platense. In the table, the red and white team is fourth with 44 points, four points behind their archrival Boca Juniors, with great chances of becoming champion.

Facing them will be Rosario Central (23rd with 28 points), led by Carlos Tévez, who has drawn in their last three matches and will seek to surprise River and ruin the day for Gallardo and company.
