According to 'TyC Sports' and 'Olé', the Racing de Avellaneda football player was intercepted by a police control and both his vehicle and driver's license were retained after testing positive for alcohol in his system.

Edwin Cardona is once again in the eye of the storm. The football player from Racing Club de Avellaneda tested positive in a breathalyzer test conducted on Tuesday, October 11, but the information only began to circulate in the Argentine press on Thursday.

According to TyC Sports and Olé, the Colombian midfielder was stopped by a police patrol at the intersection of Macacha Güemes and Juana Manso streets in Buenos Aires. The player had 1.81 grams of alcohol in his blood, which is more than triple the legal limit (0.5).

According to the mentioned media outlets, the Colombian midfielder did not resist the procedure and explained that he went out to eat with his partner and was stopped by the officers upon leaving the restaurant. Both his vehicle and driver's license were retained.

A few hours ago, a video of the player's detention was leaked. The incident happened at the corner of Macacha Güemes and Juana Manso, where the player was seen talking to the police and calmly removing his belongings, such as his backpack, from the vehicle.

On the other hand, Racing de Avellaneda has not issued a statement regarding the situation of Edwin Cardona, who entered the match against Atlético Tucumán in the 83rd minute on Monday, October 10. However, a section of the 'Academia' fans booed the player for his performance on the field.

How is Racing performing in the Argentine Professional League?

The team managed by Fernando Gago is in third place with 44 points, four points behind league leaders Boca Juniors. Therefore, it is important to defeat Colón this Friday as visitors to continue the fight for the title in the Professional League.
