The president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol), Alejandro Domínguez, reiterated his support on Tuesday for the joint bid presented by Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, and Chile to host the 2030 World Cup, and assured that the region will return to the origins of football.

The head of the South American football governing body referred to the aspirations of these countries during his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the high-performance center for women's football of the Paraguayan Football Association (AFP), which was attended by the president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino.

"I believe that it is worthy for FIFA itself to take responsibility for carrying out a gesture to honor that memory," said Domínguez referring to the leaders who promoted the construction of the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo, which hosted the first World Cup in July 1930.

"There may be very luxurious stadiums, and in fact, there are; very modern stadiums, and in fact, there are. We can even think that there are other countries that can replicate the Centenario, but there is only one Centenario in the world," he said.

In that context, he argued that "history cannot be bought with money" and "luxury does not make history."

"What we can promise the world, President Infantino, is to go back to the origins and show where it was born and how it was played," Domínguez stated, defending the "return to the essence."

"South America is ready, the four countries are ready, to bring the World Cup in 2030," he added.

The joint bid of the four South American countries, which will compete with the one led by Spain, Portugal, and Ukraine, carries the theme "Centenary World Cup," as an intended homage to the 100 years of the first World Cup.
