Greece vs Northern Ireland as it happened in the Nations League

It was another poor performance from Northern Ireland who finish third in League C2

It was another poor performance from Northern Ireland who finish third in League C2

Northern Ireland ended their UEFA Nations League campaign on a low note on Tuesday night.

Ian Baraclough's side failed to back up Saturday's comeback heroics against Kosovo by falling to a disappointing 3-1 defeat in Athens.

Greece led when Dmitrus Pelkas capitalised on some poor defending to head home in the 14th minute, but Shayne Lavery's cool finish drew the sides level four minutes later.

That's as good as it got for the visitors.

Giorgos Masouras slotted home Greece's second goal in the 55th minute after a mistake from Steven Davis, and Petros Mantalos wrapped up the win 10 minutes from time with a superb long-range effort.

Cyprus' heavy defeat to Kosovo tonight means Northern Ireland finish third in League C2 and avoid the embarrassment of relegation.

But there is very little to celebrate following another poor performance in Athens.

Not good reading

Tonight's defeat means Northern Ireland will be in pot 5 for next month's European qualifiers draw.

Just means the strength of opposition will be greater for Ian Baraclugh's side when the groups are drawn.

GOAL!! Greece 1-1 N Ireland

Northern Ireland equalise in the 18th minute!

Lovely cross from Steven Davis out on the left, and Shayne Lavery ghosts between two defenders to coolly side-foot home from close range.

Was a composed finish from the Blackpool striker.

It's 1-1!
