Keith Hernandez is on the IL.
The Mets legend and SNY analyst is done for the season, broadcast partner Gary Cohen announced during the team’s game against the Athletics in Oakland. Hernandez missed a curb and attempted to save his glasses and phone, and ended up hurting his shoulder.
“He suffered a complete tear of a tendon in his shoulder and is going to require surgery next week,” Cohen said. “Keith is on the injured list, he is out for the rest of the regular season.”
Per Cohen, Hernandez will have surgery next Thursday.
Last season, Hernandez was briefly sidelined in July due to a gardening accident — he reportedly tripped while standing on his hot tub pruning bushes — that required eight stitches in his big toe.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Cohen said. “He was a little sheepish about it. You know, last year, he had the gardening accident last season, this is more of an urban thing.”
