The situation began to get complicated for Paul Pogba's brother. A judge ordered pretrial detention for Mathias Pogba after being implicated in the blackmail of the Juventus midfielder.
In this convoluted conflict, four other men are also involved, who allegedly demanded 13 million euros from Paul in exchange for protection. Three of them have also ended up in prison, while the fourth has not yet appeared before the judge.
All of them have denied charges of kidnapping and blackmail, but have admitted to pressuring the footballer. They also claim to suffer coercion, threats, and violent attacks by unidentified groups. Two of the accused, identified as the K. brothers, were assaulted and one of them was shot in the hand last August.
Paul Pogba had filed complaints for extortion both in Italy and France since he was intimidated in March in a neighborhood in the town where he grew up, in Roissy-en-Brie - the suburbs of Paris - where childhood friends had taken him.
In the presence of two armed hooded men with rifles, they demanded 13 million from Paul. For months, this group of acquaintances allegedly pressured and harassed both the French international and his inner circle (his mother Yeo Moriba and his representative, the Brazilian Rafaela Pimenta).
The investigation was convinced that Mathias Pogba, Paul's older brother, intermediated in that extortion, something he has denied. Mathias decided to make the matter public with a strange video at the end of August, where he spoke of "surprising revelations" about his brother and Kylian Mbappé.
