The family game from Nintendo, Splatoon 3, became the biggest debut of the Nintendo Switch console to date, reaching 3.45 million units sold in Japan during its first weekend. This is the highest national sales level for any Nintendo Switch software in the first three days.
The success of the video game was such that the console manufacturer's shares rose 5.5 percent in Tokyo on Tuesday, its biggest jump since December 2020, according to Bloomberg.
The economic media also pointed out that the highly anticipated release surpassed the initial national sales of any Switch title, surpassing the 1.88 million units of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a video game that boosted Nintendo's software sales during the pandemic.

"This is the highest national sales level for any Nintendo Switch software in the first three days," the Japanese company said.
In the Splatoon series of action and shooter games, players play as Inklings, squid-like characters that can also take on a humanoid form.
Nintendo released the game Splatoon for the Wii U system in May 2015 and the game Splatoon 2 for Nintendo Switch in July 2017. Splatoon 3 is the latest game in the series, in which players face off against each other in two teams of four players, claiming territory by covering it with ink in territorial battles.

Regarding this version of the game, Nintendo announced that it will add more weapons and stages through updates for two years after the release, and will hold events such as Splatfests, where players will be divided into three teams to claim territory and overall victory. Players can connect with others worldwide online, as well as play together locally, each with their own Nintendo Switch system.
According to Bloomberg, this new installment, which includes new weapons and special instruments, is part of a series of games that Nintendo has lined up for the holiday period, a strategy that seeks to extend the lifespan of the Switch - which is already five years old - beyond the typical window for a single generation of consoles.
