MEXICO -- Puebla defender Gustavo Ferrareis has undergone surgery after being injured during the game against Chivas, and this situation has resulted in the Puebla player being out of action for four months.
In a statement from Puebla, it was reported that Gustavo Ferrareis suffered a fractured fibula and a dislocated tibia with a ruptured ligament in his left ankle. After a successful operation, he will now enter a recovery phase.
"After the injury suffered by our player Gustavo Ferrareis in Saturday's game, he underwent successful surgery in the city of Guadalajara for a fractured fibula and a dislocated tibia with a ruptured ligament in his left ankle. The approximate recovery time is 4 months, subject to progress. Everyone at La Franja is with you. Stay strong, Ferra!" the club stated in its press release.
The Puebla defender was injured when his shoe got caught in the grass, resulting in immediate medical attention due to the severity of the injury.
During medical attention, both the Estadio Akron paramedic team and the Puebla medical staff tried to calm the player, given the seriousness of the injury.
Gustavo Ferrareis was applauded by the Chivas fans as he was carried off the field, as many Guadalajara supporters realized the severity of the injury. Both the stadium sound system and the Chivas fans expressed their regret for what happened.
"The truth is that it is an injury that ends up being another setback on the path of this tournament. It was a play that was too unfortunate to result in something more serious," said coach Nicolás Larcamón about Gustavo Ferrareis' injury at the end of the match.
