England mourns
The confirmation of the death of Queen Elizabeth II has shocked the country, and the sports world will also join the mourning of that country
The death of the monarch will mark a before and after in world history, especially because she was a figure who had a close relationship with sports.
In this regard, due to the mourning that the country is experiencing, the Premier League will also go on hiatus in the seventh matchday that was scheduled to be played between Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Throughout its history, English football has only stopped on two occasions, the first when the world experienced World War II in which England participated and which lasted from 1939 to 1945. The other occasion that caused it to stop was in 2020 when the coronavirus pandemic hit the whole world starting in March.
As for the monarchy, there has been a precedent that caused a suspension of football, and it was the death of Princess Lady Di, which occurred in 1997 and resulted in a one-day break.
For now, the Premier League has sent its condolences, but has not commented on its activities for the weekend.
"The Premier League is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Her Majesty The Queen, Elizabeth II. Our thoughts and condolences are with The Royal Family and everyone around the world mourning the loss of Her Majesty." - Premier League
