Former US President Barack Obama (2009-2017) won an Emmy award, presented this weekend, for his role as a narrator in the Netflix documentary series "Our Great National Parks".

The series, in which Higher Ground Productions, the production company that the former White House tenant has with former first lady Michelle Obama, is involved, consists of five episodes.

One of them, dedicated to the Chilean Patagonia, was nominated in the category of Outstanding Cinematography for a Nonfiction Program, but that award went to "Dancing with God", the fourth episode of "100 foot wave".

Obama adds this first Emmy to the two Grammy Awards he already has for the best audio books for "The Audacity of Hope", in which he exposes his political thinking, and "Dreams from My Father", a biography with a more personal vision of his career.

Due to the large number of Emmy categories, the American Television Academy divides them into two parts: the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, this weekend, and the Primetime Emmy Awards, which is the grand gala with the most interesting sections for the public and will also take place in Los Angeles on September 12.

Some of the awards from this first batch had already been announced. Spanish artist Alberto Mielgo, winner of the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for "The Windshield Wiper", was awarded for his work on "Jíbaro", one of the episodes of the Netflix animated series "Love, Death & Robots".

"Jíbaro", a fantastic story written and directed by the filmmaker, won the award for Best Animated Short Film, and Mielgo was also recognized for his work in animation character design.

Among the big winners of this edition was British singer Adele, whose special program "Adele: One Night Only" won five awards, including Best Pre-Recorded Special or Best Direction or Best Sound Editing.

"The Beatles: Get Back", a three-part documentary on Disney+ directed by New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson, tied with the same number of awards and won the award for Best Direction of a Documentary or Nonfiction Program, among others.
