Alliance Lima and Universitario will face each other on Sunday, September 4th at the Matute Stadium for the 10th round of the Clausura Tournament. From Uruguay, former cream coach Gregorio Pérez spoke about how the teams are doing, but he trusts that the merengues will achieve a positive result.

Since taking over the coaching duties at Universitario, Pérez has shown great familiarity with the institution and made it clear that he is a fan of the club. The 'Maestro' recalled the last classic match where Alianza Lima defeated Universitario 4-1.
"Classics are not played, they are won. From a distance, I continue to follow Peruvian football, but the Classics are special. The previous match, 'U' lost by a large margin and now they have the chance to turn that around. Pérez trusts that Universitario can win the classic
Universitario has had an irregular campaign in the Liga 1 and is aware that they cannot afford to drop more points if they want to compete for the Clausura Tournament. Pérez acknowledged that Alianza Lima's current situation is different from that of the merengues, but he believes they have a squad to fight back.
"I have a great desire to coach for many years in Peru. The Classics have their own celebration, their own history. The voice of the fans is motivating and helps us achieve results. I think Universitario has a squad that can achieve a good result, without underestimating Alianza, who are doing better in the standings," he said.
Finally, Gregorio Pérez stated: "There is a reality, it is not a good year, unexpected situations have occurred and the results have not come. A big team should be fighting for the title, that's what the fans expect, and things have not gone that way, but they are achieving other things. I believe that the club is getting organized and there is a sense of serious leadership."
