Amidst rumors of problems, Martin Braithwaite leaves Barcelona. The club announced the termination of his contract through a statement, explaining that the agreement signed until 2023/2024 has ended. Moreover, everything indicates that his destination would be linked to a new Spanish club, where he is already undergoing medical examinations on the eve of the end of the summer transfer market.
"The Danish striker arrived at FC Barcelona during the winter transfer market of 2020, when the club signed him from Leganés. Throughout the two and a half seasons he has been at Camp Nou, the forward has worn the Barcelona shirt on 58 occasions," read the statement.
"It has been an honor to represent this club. I have always given my best for the fans and the club, and I will always be grateful for the support shown," the player wrote on his social media after the club published the news announcing the outcome of his situation.
Braithwaite's destination
The Danish forward has been offered to Espanyol and his agent sees this change to the blanquiazul entity with good eyes, as he seeks to continue in LaLiga while maintaining his personal life and that of his family in the city of Barcelona.
On this same Wednesday, Braithwaite had also been linked to the interest of AEK Athens in Greece, who asked about his situation both to Barça and to the player's environment to see if they can afford the operation financially.
The Dane had been rejecting offers throughout the summer with the intention of putting pressure on Barcelona until the last moment to get the most out of the remaining contract money. Finally, despite having more tempting offers from Arab countries, he prioritizes staying in the Catalan capital.
Which players will leave Barcelona in 2022-23?
After consulting with the technical direction led by Xavi Hernández, FC Barcelona decided to part ways with up to 11 players for the upcoming season: Coutinho, Trincao, Puig, Mingueza, Neto, Wagué, Manaj, Alves, Nico, Lenglet, and Collado.
Of the mentioned players, only Philippe Coutinho and Francisco Trincao brought in revenue to Barcelona's coffers: 20 and three million euros, respectively. Meanwhile, Nico, Lenglet, and Collado were loaned out for the entire season.
