Derlis González took advantage of the opportunity and scored the 1-0 for Paraguay vs. Mexico in the international friendly match.

The Paraguay national team defeated Mexico on Wednesday, with a goal from Derlis González, and confirmed the shortcomings of Tri, in a friendly match played at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, less than three months before their debut in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Goalkeeper Antony Silva saved the team coached by Guillermo Barros Schelotto several times, who had only one arrival to the opponent's area and took advantage of it with González's goal.

The first half was dominated by Mexico, which was confirmed by a statistic: Paraguay's standout player was Silva.

Mexico had 71% possession in their favor, entered well through the wings, and repeatedly entered the opponent's area with five shots on goal, but lacked accuracy in attacks by César Montes, Jesús Gallardo, and Roberto Alvarado.

The Paraguayans stood their ground at the back, waiting for a counterattack and, although they attacked little, they achieved the objective of keeping their goal at zero.

Paraguay, ranked 50th in the FIFA rankings, struck the Mexicans at the start of the second half. In the 51st minute, Carlos González won the ball and hit the crossbar; Derlis González recovered the rebound and scored for the 0-1 lead.

Mexico, ranked twelfth in the world, went on the offensive and came close to equalizing with a shot from Jesús Gallardo that hit the crossbar in the 56th minute and a long-distance shot from Luis Chávez in the 67th minute.
