Paola Longoria is the current number one in the world, and a few days ago she became the world champion for the fifth time, despite her complaints to Conade for not receiving financial resources for her preparation for the World Championship held in San Luis Potosí, and now Ana Guevara has revealed that this blocking of resources is due to the fact that Longoria owes the Federal Government the amount of 1,665,810 pesos corresponding to the fiscal years 2015-2018.
The solution is that she has to present herself and establish how she will pay it in order to continue receiving support because otherwise she is closing the door to finding a solution. Her rights as an athlete are not violated, she can continue competing," said Ana Guevara in an interview with Joaquín López-Dóriga for his program on Radio Fórmula.
Initially, the problem of lack of resources for racquetball players was focused on the debt that the Mexican Specialty Federation has with Conade this year, but Ana Guevara finally indicated that Longoria has not proven those expenses.
"The federation owes 432,000 pesos and Paola owes 1,665,810 pesos. This is not a personal decision, it is being done by order of the Public Function and the Political Coordination Board (...) If she fails to make it transparent and prove that she submitted the documents with an acknowledgment of receipt, unfortunately it will have to be resolved judicially and it will have to be with another authority, not with us. It is the Public Function that says this payment must be made," explained Guevara.
Longoria was one of the athletes whose monthly scholarship was reduced by over 80 percent, as she now receives six thousand pesos. Milenio-La Afición was able to confirm that before the scholarship readjustment made by Ana Guevara, the racquetball player received 80 thousand pesos per month in a non-Olympic sport.
A few days ago, in an interview with Milenio-La Afición, the director of Conade indicated that she doesn't care about the blackmail that some athletes have used to pressure her for budget allocation.
"It is recurring that many say that what they experienced as athletes they now experience as directors, and it must be clarified that they are not the same things. If this were a similarity to the work I had in the office like the one I had as an athlete, productivity would be totally different. Here, I am governed by a law, by regulations and norms that are not the same as what you can do on the track, and in your physical work that only depends on you," said Guevara to La Afición.
