Islanders defenseman Sebastian Aho was recently arrested in Sweden for drunk driving and had his driver's license suspended as a result, The Post confirmed.

The incident, which was first reported by the Swedish outlet Norran, occurred at 10:30 a.m. on August 13. Aho and his wife had visited friends the night before. He blew a .03, which would be under the legal limit of .08 in the U.S., but is over the .02 limit in Sweden.

According to AftonBladet, Aho was fined 40,000 Swedish Krona, which is equivalent to $3,769.

"He had no idea he would still be over the limit by the next morning and felt 100 percent, but unfortunately he made a mistake and he is very sorry!" Aho's agent, Claude Lemieux, told The Post via text.

Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed The Post's reporting in a statement.

"We were made aware immediately of the situation regarding Sebastian Aho," Lamoriello said. "We have a copy of the police report indicating that he registered a 0.03 blood alcohol content, which is .01 over Sweden’s legal limit of .02. Sebastian apologizes for his mistake and as an organization, we will work with him to make sure this never happens again."

Aho was reportedly on vacation in Sundsvall, a small city on the Baltic Sea, and was stopped at a checkpoint.

"I deeply regret and learn from this mistake and will definitely never drive again the next day," Aho told Norran.

The 26-year-old, who comes into the season as the likely seventh defenseman for the Islanders, has struggled to crack the regular lineup since coming over to North America in 2017.

Aho was a group-six unrestricted free agent this offseason, re-signing with the Islanders on a two-year deal for $825,000 average annual value. He will be competing with Robin Salo for a spot on the left side of the third defense pairing when training camp opens next month.

Aho played 36 games for the Isles last season, scoring two goals with 10 assists.
