11-year-old student Rico Sheng Ling Nava Cahuana, from Machu Picchu Pueblo, in Cusco, has qualified for the 2022 First World Cadet Chess Championship. The global event will take place from September 15 to 28 in the city of Batumi, Georgia.
Rico will represent Peru in the under-12 category of the chess championship, but he requires support to travel to the European country.
Erlinda Cahuana García, the mother of the chess player, indicated that the total cost to make her son's participation in the championship possible is S/30,000. As a family, they have already covered the registration fee of S/10,000.

They lack money for round-trip tickets and accommodation. "We are reaching out to several companies, small and large, so that they can support us and make this trip possible so that he can represent Peru and the region," the mother told Cusco media.
Cahuana stated that previously the municipality of Machu Picchu had supported them. However, now they will not be able to cover 100% of the expenses.
Previously, the child was part of the Peruvian team that participated in the XXXII Pan American Youth Chess Festival held in Uruguay. On that occasion, he placed third.
