Jesús Corona's Stay in Sevilla

Mexican forward Jesús Manuel Corona, 29, suffered a severe injury during Sevilla's practice on Thursday. According to initial reports, 'Tecatito' had to be taken by ambulance from the club's facilities and the worst was confirmed: he suffered a broken fibula and ligament damage in his left ankle.

Initially, coach Julen Lopetegui expressed his concern but did not provide many details to the press. "I can't say much more, I would be lying. It seems he injured his ankle. I hope it's as minor as possible, but it's true that it didn't look good. It was an unfortunate incident. It could be significant, so we have to wait," explained the coach.

Shortly after, according to the statement sent by the Spanish institution, it was known that the player was not involved in a collision but that his injury occurred during "a game situation." At that moment, due to the signals shown by the former Porto player, he was urgently transferred to FREMAP.

The medical analysis specified a "broken fibula and deltoid ligament in the left ankle," which will require Jesús Manuel Corona to undergo surgery later on Thursday. Undoubtedly, it will be a significant loss for Sevilla, who had just started their activity in LaLiga Santander.

Similarly, the 'Nervionenses' (Sevilla's nickname) indicated a detail that causes sorrow in the Mexican national team: 'Tecatito' will be out of the field for four to five months, the time required for his recovery, and will be unable to participate in the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Jesús Manuel Corona joined Sevilla at the beginning of 2022 and played 18 games in the local tournament during the first part of the year, scoring two goals and providing four assists. The Mexican player aspired to establish himself in the 2022-23 season and was a starter in the start of LaLiga Santander (a 2-1 defeat against Osasuna), but now he will have to be patient to play again.
