The Texas Rangers fired manager Chris Woodward on Monday and named third-base coach Tony Beasley the interim skipper for the rest of the season.

When the Rangers dive into their offseason manager search, a pair of ex-New York Yankees could be on the short list, according to The Athletic.
Joe Espada, Houston Astros bench coach
Ahead of the 2022 season, he was a manager candidate for the Oakland A’s, who hired Mark Kotsay; the San Diego Padres, who hired Bob Melvin; and the New York Mets, who hired Buck Showalter.
In previous years, the 46-year-old Espada interviewed for managerial jobs with the Rangers and Chicago Cubs.
Espada, you may remember, was special assistant to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman in 2014. He was instrumental in the scouting process that helped the Yankees decide to acquire shortstop Didi Gregorius when Derek Jeter retired.
From 2015-17, Espada was the Yankees’ third base coach for Joe Girardi.

Carlos Beltran, YES Network analyst
Beltran briefly was the manager of the Mets before losing his job as part of the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal.
Beltran, who will appear on the Hall-of-Fame ballot next year, currently is an analyst for Yankees coverage on YES Network.
Beltran is a borderline candidate for Cooperstown. He was a nine-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove Award winner during his 20-year MLB career. He finished with 2,725 career base hits and two Silver Slugger Awards. He played for the Mets from 2005 to 2011 and the Yankees from 2014 to 2016.
As for Woodward, he was the fourth manager to lose his job this season, joining Joe Girardi (Philadelphia Phillies), Joe Maddon (Los Angeles Angels) and Charlie Montoyo (Toronto Blue Jays) in the unemployment line.
