After that, a second set with more pressure came. Gonzalo has been showing his quality in tennis and his professionalism at only 18 years old. In the second part, he managed to change a 2-2 tie to 4-2 in his favor. Finally, the young promise defeated him 6-4.
The most intense moment came in the third set forced by the national racket. Bueno took a 2-0 lead, but Tirante reduced the difference. Every point became more intense and they ended up reaching 3-2. The Peruvian made it 5-3 convincingly, without giving Thiago any chance.
Nerves got the better of him and the game reached 5-4. The match ended in a surprising 5-7 in favor of the Argentine's persistence. Now Tirante is in the final where he will face Camilo Ugo.
Gonzalo Bueno's Journey
It is worth mentioning that Bueno reached the semifinals after a solid performance against Portuguese Gastao Elias. The 199th ATP was defeated by the Peruvian 2-1, with scores of 6-2, 6-7 (2-7), and 0-6. The Argentine tennis player reached the semis after defeating Juan Pablo Varillas 2-0. The national tennis player said goodbye in the quarterfinals, being defeated with scores of 6-4 and 6-3.
On his way to the final, he had a surprising victory over Ficovich, the 127th ATP-ranked Argentine, by 7-5 and 6-3. Meanwhile, in the round of 16, he defeated fellow Argentine Román Andrés Burruchaga, 334th ATP-ranked.
These are Gonzalo Bueno's first Challenger victories in his sixth appearance in this type of tournament - three of them in Lima. He already had ATP points from M25 tournaments and is currently ranked 937th, but these victories are putting him live rankings close to the 600th position.
